يواجه موقع "أخـبار ليـبـيا" دعوى
بالتشهير ضده وضد مشرفه عاشور الشامس، في المحكمة العليا الانجليزية، تقدم
بها احد كبار رجال الأعمال واحد الشخصيات الاعلامية المرموقة في ليبيا، الذي
ورد اسمه في مقالات منشورة في الموقع قبل عدة أشهر. ورغم أن المقالات كُتبت
من قبل مشاركين من داخل ليبيا، إلا أن تهمة التشهير موجهة ضد عاشور الشامس
وهو المستهدف شخصيا.
وفي خطوة غير مسبوقة، قمنا بإزالة
تلك المقالات، وعرضنا علي الشخص المعني أن يكتب ردا على تلك الادعاءات، ونحن
على استعداد لنشره ولكنه لم يتجاوب.
وهكذا تواجه "أخـبار ليـبـيا"
القضاء، في موقف تتصاعد فيه تكاليف القضية التي لا يمكن لنا تغطيتها دون
مساهمة انصار الموقع. فالموقع في حاجة ماسة لمساهمتكم المالية لتغطية اتعاب
المحامين واحتياجات القضية الحاضرة والمستقبلية... إن الموقع في حاجة لدعمكم
كي يستمر في آداء رسالته ومواصلة كفاحه من أجل حرية الرأي والتعبير، ومن أجل
حرية الصحافة في ليبيا.

Shamis accused of ‘defamation’
Akhbar Libya is facing a claim
for libel in the English High Court, brought by a wealthy and prominent
Libyan businessman and a media personality. His name appeared in articles
published several months ago. Although the articles were written by
contributors from inside Libya, Ashur Shamis is personally being sued for
libel.
We have removed the articles in
question from our website, which is unprecedented, and the individual
concerned has spurned the opportunity to respond and defend himself in
writing on our website.
The legal costs of the case are
mounting and cannot be paid without your help and support. We urgently
require funds to meet the present and future legal and other costs, that
